CLA members have made their choice for the new Councillor-at-Large to serve on CLA Executive Council (Board of Directors).
Catherine Steeves, Associate Chief Librarian (ITS) at the University of Guelph, will become a member of the Council at the Annual General Meeting on May 24, 2008. Councillors-at-Large serve three-year terms and have special responsibilities for liaising with CLA’s Interest Groups.
Other candidates in the Councillor-at-Large election were Thomas Quigley, Branch Head, Joe Fortes Branch, Vancouver Public Library, and Tanis Fink, Director of Libraries, King Campus, Seneca College.
Earlier, John Teskey, Director of Libraries, University of New Brunswick, was acclaimed as CLA’s new Vice-President / President-Elect for 2008/2009.
Mr. Teskey and Ms. Steeves will join two new Division Presidents on CLA’s Executive Council effective May 24, 2008: Robyn Stockand from the Canadian Association of Special Libraries and Information Services (CASLIS), and Andre Gagnon from the Canadian Association of Public Libraries (CAPL).
The Canadian Association of College and University Libraries (CACUL) held an election for the position of Director (Personal). The successful candidate is Gillian Byrne of Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Other Divisions and Sections either filled their vacancies by acclamation or will be electing representatives at their annual general meetings in May. For a complete list of positions filled and elections still to be held, visit the CLA website www.cla.ca and click on “Elections Central”.
