Intent
To recognize academic libraries which, through innovation in ongoing
programs/services or in a special event/project, have contributed to the
advancement of academic librarianship and library development.
Criteria
1. Innovation: The award recognizes events,
projects, programs, products, services, etc. which are either entirely
original or which constitute substantial improvements on existing
endeavours. The degree to which the activity can be said to have broken
new ground in its operational context is the most important measure of
the submission's merit.
2. Currency: The award will recognize an
innovation implemented during the January to December period
immediately preceding the CACUL Annual General Meeting at the Canadian
Library Association Annual Conference. However, activities often span
more than one year and the following guidelines have been established. A
project which crosses over more than one calendar year should be
submitted for the year in which it is completed, or, for very large
projects submissions may concern the implementation of modules or the
completion of phases. An event should be nominated for the year in
which it occurred (not the year during which it was planned, if
different from the event year).
3. Utility: The award is intended to recognize a
significant contribution to academic librarianship. Thus, the extent to
which the activity can be adopted wholesale or adapted easily to other
settings is considered.
4. Long Term Impact: The award recognizes activities
which show potential for long term impact, either in terms of their own
ongoing development, longevity, enduring popularity, etc. or as
platforms from which future ventures will be launched.
5. Ambition: The ambitiousness of the project in
proportion to the resources of the institution will be taken into
account. The selection committee considers the level of effort that was
required to put together the time, money and other resources required
for the activity.
Procedures
1. Each nomination must be submitted by a member of CACUL and
forwarded to the CACUL Director - Awards by February 28,
