This group, which has been formed on the assumption that
librarianship requires an understanding of its historical and
philosophical foundations in order to face, intelligently, the
challenges of the future, has four major aims:
-
To adopt, as its areas of concern, library history, philosophy, and
comparative librarianship, particularly as they relate to Canada.
-
To encourage awareness and discussion of the history of libraries
and librarianship and of the place of libraries in a changing
society.
-
To promote research and publication on library history and related
areas.
-
To develop communication between librarians and other members of
the academic community, relevant to the history and philosophy of
librarianship.
