Canadian Library Association Announces 2011 Book of the Year
For Children Award Shortlist
(Ottawa, March 1, 2011) The Canadian Library Association is
delighted to announce the shortlist for the 2011 Book of the Year for
Children Award. The Book of the Year for Children Award is
generously sponsored by Library Services Centre.
This notable award recognizes a Canadian author of an outstanding
book published in Canada in 2010, which appeals to children up to and
including age 12.
The winner of the award, and the Honour Books, will be announced prior
to the National Canadian Library Association Conference and Trade
Show. The award will be presented at the conference in Halifax,
Nova Scotia on May 26 at the annual awards reception.
This year, the committee was presented with 156 books, of which 39
were ultimately long-listed for a thorough reading and review. The
wealth of extraordinary children’s writers in Canada made this a
phenomenal task. On behalf of the children of Canada, we salute
the efforts and accomplishments of these writers, and we thank them and
their publishers for providing our children with an inspired collection
of new titles.
