2008 Outstanding Service to Librarianship Award Announced by the
Canadian Library Association/ Association canadienne des
bibliothèques
(Ottawa, April 23, 2008) - The Canadian Library
Association/Association canadienne des bibliothèques is pleased to
announce that the 2008 Outstanding Service to Librarianship Award is
being presented to Vivienne Monty. The Outstanding Service to
Librarianship Award is generously sponsored by Bowker.
The nominator described Monty as "outstanding
in many ways: librarian, member of the York University faculty, teacher,
committee member, leader, mentor, writer and scholar".
Monty is currently the Senior Librarian at the
Leslie Frost Library, Glendon College, York University. She has been
affiliated with York University since 1973 and was previously Senior
Librarian at the Scott Library and for many years was Head of the
Government Documents/Administrative Studies Library at York. She holds
an MLS and a BA in History from the University of Toronto.
Monty is former Chair of the Depository
Services Remodeling Committee for the DSP program and was influential in
shaping federal government information policies through her 1998 report
Proposal for a revised model depository system. She is a former
President of the Canadian Library Association and chaired and served on
numerous committees over the years. Monty is also a former President and
Member of the executive Board of the Toronto Chapter of the Special
Libraries Association. In 2004, she was Chair of a prestigious American
Library Association Accreditation External Review Panel.
The Outstanding Service to Librarianship Award
will be announced at the CLA/ACB Annual General Meeting, to be
held Saturday, May 24 during the CLA 2008 National Conference in
Vancouver, British Columbia.
