The Canadian Library Association/Association canadienne des bibliothèques has a significant role in promoting awareness of the important cultural, educational, social and economic roles that Canada’s libraries and information services play.

CLA does this through public relations activities such community relations and special events. Examples are:

Canadian Library Month/Mois des bibliothèques au Canada

Organized annually by a broad-based, national volunteer committee with CLA/ACB support, Canadian Library Month/Mois des bibliothèques au Canada celebrates the contributions that all types of libraries and information services, and all library workers, make to their local, academic and business communities. It encourages people to learn more about and use their libraries.

Special Projects & Events

CLA/ACB holds special events to bring national attention to the library and information community. A 2006 project and event, “Launch Your Future with Reading”, encouraged children to read, write and ask questions. It received an international Summit Creative Award for community relations, a national Canadian Society of Association Executives award for public relations, and was short-listed for an international PR News award.
