ARL Salary Survey
If you're interested in academic librarianship, you may be interested in knowing about average salaries and salary trends. The Association of Research Libraries does an annual survey in this area. Here's the abstract for 04/05 from the ARL newsletter:
"The growth in librarian salaries outpaced inflation once again in 2004–2005, according to the recently published ARL Annual Salary Survey. Overall, the survey found the median salary for U.S. and Canadian ARL university libraries rose to $55,250, up a healthy a 4.2 percent. Despite the overall increase, the rate of increase for beginning salaries dipped slightly. Perhaps most remarkable, however, is that, while women continue to hold nearly two-thirds of positions at ARL libraries, the average salary for men remains higher: $62,005, versus women's salaries of $58,770. Further, average salaries for men still surpass those of women in 18 of the 27 job categories that ARL tracks."
