Info*Nation: you can help to promote the library and information professions in Canada!
In response to the findings of the report The Future of Human Resources in Canadian Libraries , AKA The 8Rs Report, the Canadian Library Association established the CLA President's Council on the 8Rs. The members of the Council's recruitment working group are currently developing Info*Nation, a website designed to promote the library and information professions in Canada. The Info*Nation site will be directed at those considering a career in libraries.
Essentially, Info*Nation is an attempt to recruit some new blood to our profession. We want to emphasize the diverse elements of library work and break down some of the stereotypes associated with libraries. At the same time we want to recruit personnel that continue to be committed to the core values of librarianship (public service, learning, literacy, access to information, regular coffee breaks, etc.). Besides, at some point a whole bunch of senior librarians are going to retire and it would be nice to have one or two competent individuals to fill the void.
The pre-launch site, http://www.cla.ca/infonation/, is intended to announce the project and seek some participation from our existing library community. Every nation needs its citizens. Join now! We need your help to gather the diverse voices of people that work in Canadian libraries. If you have an interesting job in the information world and are passionate and proud of what you do, join our movement by visiting the pre-launch site and putting the reasons why into a few words.
You can also help us spread the word! Join the campaign. Write about the project on your blog or website and grab a free graphic off our site to help with publicity. Tell your friends. If you know someone who loves their work and is interested in bringing in new recruits to the profession, you should encourage them to join up too. How long do you have? Well, the pre-launch campaign runs throughout the month of May and the official Info*Nation website is set to launch mid June at the CLA conference.
