Why I love my job
I feel like my job overlaps into all of the really creative, interesting parts of other careers. Writing, designing, researching, sharing, collaborating, and traveling are all just part of the job. Add to that the fact that primary clientele are energetic students and faculty who are constantly working in new areas of research and it can sometimes feel like a wild, creative whirlwind of a career. One of my favourite parts of being a librarian is that librarianship is a profession in transition. This affords amazing opportunities to explore new ideas and technologies in a "let's give this a try... what's the worst that could happen!" fashion that I don't think I would find in other fields.
Why I chose a career in libraries
It was an accident, really. During the last year of my undergraduate degree I found part time work in my university's library system. The people that I met, the environment they worked in and the work they were involved in was, at the time, surprisingly fascinating. I guess I just got sucked in by the glamour.
